with a cherry on top

I really don't like Halloween (I actually think it's pretty morbid if you think about it) and the abundance of candy that sometimes I can't walk by without grabbing "just one piece" of. But, I love the costume part. I have fun trying to come up with something original and different because I really can't stand to buy the cheap/expensive cheesy store bought costumes.

Connor was being wishy-washy about what he wanted to be.. went from fighter pilot, to army guy, to men in black, to wanting to be "something scary"...he finally settled on a skeleton costume. Trey wanted to be Indiana Jones, which Connor was last year, so I was trying to talk him into being an ipod (he is totally obsessed with) but he wouldn't budge.
I was having a hard time figuring out what Lilly should be, my SIL had a Dora costume that I might be able to revamp, but, i really wasn't sold on it. Then i saw this, another of my prised DI finds, on the counter.

I guess my procrastination problem sometimes pays-off :)

In the morning, my sister and her girls and my mom met us at the school for the parade.

This year we let Connor be a "big kid" and trick-or-treat with out us tagging along, cramping his style. We had alot of fun this year with Lilly being old enough to understand that if she asked for candy she would actually get it! Half the time she would say "trick-or-treat", the other half she would just say"MORE CANDY"!
Afterward we had a bunch of the boys' friends and some family over for some mean games of foosball and a late movie.

I found a couple pictures of previous costumes that I have made over the years.....

Brit, you make the most amazing costumes. I think the cupcake just may have been the "sweetest" thing I have ever seen. You should check out my blog - my friends & I were the characters from Peter Pan & my mom made me a great Wendy dress.

Now HOW did you do the cupcake costume? Seriously. That's amazing. It reminded me of your french fries costume from a few years ago - and then you had a picture of it!

I miss making costumes. We've found killer deals on nice costumes the last couple years so I haven't "had" to do anything. I bet your kids love that you do it for them.

So cute! I wish I were as creative as you. Even if I came up with a cool idea I'm certain nobody would know what my kid was supposed to be. Just seeing the kids in the picture on your front stoop made my heart sink knowing that "my" house is just 15 steps away. :( I miss being your neighbor.

The pictures don't do justice for the cupcake costume, it is much better in person! I am glad that we were able to get together for Halloween.

so, for those of you (kristen) who were wondering how I made the costume, I guess I can divulge my secrets. But its mostly me being proud of myself! ;)

The cupcake bottom is made of 1/2 yard of 3/4" foam I cut on alittle bit of an angle and hot glued to make it tapered and round for it to keep it's shape.
The silver fabric around the bottom was like pleather but thinner. I hot-glued a line and kind-of accordian folded and glued it again all the way around.
For the top I made suspenders that I adjusted to the length I wanted( high enough for her to walk).
I covered that with a layer of no-pill pink fleece and cut holes for head and arms.
Next, I did another layer of fleece and hot-glued around the holes then stuffed it with batting and wrapped it around then glued to the foam underneath the silver fabric.
You can't really see from the pic, but on top I did turquois "sprinkles" made from sequins and faceted tube seed beads that looks like crystal sugar.
The materials ended up costing about $10!!! at JoAnne's. And took a couple hours.
I already had the tights from Naartje and I bought the silver sparkle shoes from Target.

Lilly was such a trooper. I had to take it on and off so many times that I was worried that she would even keep it on for Halloween. But she loved wearing it and getting all the attention!
I hope that made sense!
